V opuštěném domě úplně na konci města najde parta teenagerů knihu, která je strašnější, než cokoliv, co si kdy dovedli představit. Zanechala ji tu mladá dívka s hrozivým tajemstvím ještě před tím, než sama beze stopy zmizela. Starobylá kniha je plná děsivých příběhů a ještě děsivějších monster, ale není tak úplně ke čtení. Kniha naopak čte toho, kdo s ní přijde do styku. Přečte jeho největší noční můry, napíše z nich příběh a začne ho vyprávět a odvíjet i ve skutečném životě. A to včetně hrozivých příšer. Parta teenagerů se dostala na místo neobvyklého zla. Neměli tuhle knihu nikdy otevírat a měli včas utéct. Neutekli. Proto teď musí čelit svému strachu, nočním můrám a děsům, které je přišly zabít.
